Add keywords

Updated October 23, 2026

A keyword is a search you want your site to show up for. Each keyword becomes one article (or, as a topic cluster, one main article and several supporting ones).

Pick keywords that can rank

  • Specific beats broad. "drip irrigation for raised beds" is easier to rank for than "irrigation", and the people searching it know what they want.
  • Questions work well: how to, what is, best … for …, … vs ….
  • Stay on your site's topic. Google trusts a site more on subjects it covers often.
  • One keyword, one article. Don't add near-duplicates; Ranknera skips a keyword it has already written about for the same site.

Add one keyword

In the dashboard, go to Keywords, type it under Add a keyword and choose Add. It joins the queue as Pending. In the phone app, use Add keywords on the Keywords tab.

Add many at once

Choose Add many and paste one keyword per line. The wizard then asks:

  • One article or a topic cluster per keyword. A cluster is a main article plus supporting articles on the more specific searches around it, each linking back to the main one.
  • Now or on a schedule: start straight away, or from a date, spread over a number of hours, evenly or a few a day (with a daily limit).
  • Draft or Production (go live): save to WordPress as drafts, or publish the articles that pass the quality check. Articles that don't pass wait in Needs review either way.

Each article counts toward your plan's monthly allowance; a cluster counts its main article plus each supporting one. If a request would go over, Ranknera says how many you have left before anything starts.

Write an article

Under Write an article now, choose One article, a Topic cluster, or All waiting keywords, spread over time, pick the keyword and choose Write it now. With Autopilot on, Ranknera works through the queue for you.
